"Good bike for the price" 2009-10-24

It looks nice and the quality is pretty good. I bought this for my 8 year old daughter and she is quite happy with it. The only problem she got with it is that the shifting wheel is hard to turn for her.

"Good value for the price" 2009-10-17

Don't expect great finishing quality. The packaging being poor, even though ships Fedex, the product had parts (pedals) poking out of the package. The frame had scratches, and the handle was definitely not brand new with defective threading and old sticker / glue of some kind. The pedal's threading was not smooth so expect to use WD-40 in a few areas. Due to this experience, if you can buy at a store for a good price, I would highly consider that.

Overall assembly is easy, but I wish the pre-assembled frame / rear tire and brakes did not need adjustments which would require opening them, as playing with brakes adjustment can be tricky.

This being 'called' a mountain bike, the tires threading ensure that this is not a smooth road bike. The minimum height of the bike from ground to the seat is approx 2 feet 6 inches, and the maximum height adds another 6 inches.

As always, the kid loves it regardless.

"Good starter bike with gears" 2009-09-23
By K. Ratakonda
We bought this as the first bike for my 7-yr old daughter. It was not packaged well -- the paint was chipped and the rear tire had a flat. Putting it together was easy - every thing is pre-assembled except handle, pedals, seat and front tire. It took 30 mins to do including adjusting the breaks (I didn't bother adjusting the gears as she will be using it as a single speed bike for the first couple of months while she learns). Fixing the flat meant a trip to the k-mart. I couldn't easily find the dimensions of this bike in the description or else where -- as a reference, I needed to set the seat to its lowest point for my 53" daughter. She has been using this for the last 1 week and it seems to be holding up well so far to a few crashes - including running into a wall when she forgot to use the brakes. I am hopeful that it will hold up for another 2 years until she outgrows it.

"6ood bike, but they didn't pay attention to details" 2009-09-05
By J. L. Cornell (lower michigan)
I bought this for my 7 year old, since she recently did a 10.5 mile bike trip on her single speed bike. She needed something bigger w/gears. This bike has what she needed, but these are the downfalls... The controls are too hard to use. The brake levers are designed for an adult, a child's hand can't reach them very well. Even the grip shifter is to hard to use. I also don't like the gearing. To me, it needs a larger sprocket in the front. It appears she peddles almost at the same rate as her old bike. I'm going to take to a local bike shop and see if there is anything they suggest. If she could shift, it would be a good mountain bike. If it was geared better, it would be good for asphalt riding. Overall, the bike is decent, what you would expect fo [...]

I bought this for my 9 y/o sister who is 5'2." She said that it is a little big for her, but she is able to ride it. She likes the bike a lot and has been very happy with it. For the price, I think its is a very good value.
